Launches Military Campaign into Tunisia
The President of Ioniopolis signed an Executive Order to deploy the military into the break away region of Tunisia, today. "The Tunisian separatists have declared themselves a separate nation yesterday." Said the President. "But we shall not let them get away with these crimes!"
The 'crimes' that he speaks of are charges of discrimination by their government against ethnic Ioniopolians in Tunisia.
"We are deploying the military to Tunisia as we speak to reclaim the territory and quell the uprising." said the President.
The Minister for Defense layed out the military strategy so far. "We have launched a Naval invasion into Tunisia from the Sea, then we deployed the remaining Ioniopolian military from the Military base in the south of the region to begin a campaign northward into the region. The forces will converge onto the city of Vittum in the center of Tunisia. By that point, we should have secured all of the Tunisian land. Our campaign is so far successful. We have nearly all of the capital city of Tunis in our control."
Tunisia is key for Ioniopolis to hold on to as it has been home of most of the Ioniopilian Manufacturing Sector of the economy more close to 50 years now. Ethnic Tunisians have been opposed to staying part of Ioniopolis for years now, citing that the two cultures are too different and that the Ioniopolian government has been discriminating them by placing all the dirty industry in their land. These are charges that the government denies.

The President of Ioniopolis has just addressed a joint session of the Ioniopolian Congress on the Military action in Tunisia:
"Our strong military has taken control once again the Tunisian Lands. In a matter of 24 hours we were able to secure the region and were able to prevent any further discrimination against the Ethnic Ioniopolians living in the region." He said. "We also were able to do this with minimal damage to the infrastructure and to the Industrial centers of Tunisia. Securing the peace in this area will start now. We are already begining Aid and relief. Additionally, I am invoking Martial Law in this region until further notice. I urge all members of Congress to please be patient. We shall have that region under control shortly."
It should be noticed that the Tunisian delegation to Congress was not in attendence in the Joint Session out of protest.

The President of Ioniopolis would like to assure the critics of the martial law. Tunisia is almost secure. Once it is secured, Martial Law shall be called off. I imagine this will be in a couple of days. The President has asked that the leader of the Tunisian people to the Presidential Palace for the week to talk. The President is committed to tackling the problems of the Tunisian people and he would like to work with them to see if policies can be changed to help better their lives.

A commission has been created by the President to begin to tackle injustices facing the Tunisian people in an effort to pacify the territory. The Commission will be made up of Ioniopolis cabinet members, legislators and then members of the local Tunisian government. The commission is set to begin working in Tunis and is expected to produce a study for the government by the end of the week.
As a result of this commission being created, the President has suspended Martial Law in Tunisia and is phasing the military out of the region.
