I would first like to invite everyone to the Office of the Prime Minister. This is the space where me and future Prime Ministers shall give speeches of the Confederacy to the confederacy and to the region as a whole.
As my first major address as Prime Minister, I would like to accomplish two things: Firstly, I would like to speak to the member-states of the confederacy about the role of the confederacy in their national lives and what this means. Secondly, I would like to speak on behalf of the Senate to the Mediterranean community.
The Confederacy is young. There is no doubt about this. It is understandable why some would view it with skepticism. As far as I know, there have not been any major regional governments in this region. This is something that I hope to change. While the confederacy is a voluntary organization, the participation of more nations could only mean good things for the region. There are some nations out there feel that our confederacy is a bunch of mularkey. That somehow the Mediterranean Confederacy is all about centralization and all about taking away the individuality of nations. This is not my vision of the Confederacy. The Confederacy is all about cooperation. The Confederacy is all about prosperity. And most importantly, the Confederacy is all about building a community.
Many who cannot see this mission label it as a doomed social project, saying that it is bent on controlling the region. Then at the same time, these same nations will try to wield some sort of geopolitical plot to buy off other nations by making them conform to an unofficial hegemony. I will atest tonight that this is a great hypocrisy. What takes a nation's individuality away more is a system where you are coaxed in to following their views through payoffs of aid and defense.
The Confederacy is a system that will allow all nations to have a fair and equal input. All nations will have a role in drafting policy. And all nations will have protective rights from one another. The Confederacy cannot infringe on individuality through this system, but only facilitate cooperation and cooperation is exactly the success that I predict the Confederacy shall have.
The confederacy has many issues that it will want to tackle. The food crisis which was reported the other day is just one such issue. A food distribution system is something that the Senate might want to consider in the future. A ready plan for distributing food to nations who need it and a plan for ethanol production is a suggested idea.
On top of that, the Senate should consider a policy for war and military action. Given that this is a confederacy, I am opposed to the creation of a confederate army. A confederate military force would infringe on the individual rights of nations to conduct military actions and would integrate the member-states faster than I'd like to see. I, however, would not be opposed to some sort of coalition between the member-states that would be ready in the event of an attack. Military response is an issue I would like to see this Senate tackle as well.
Finally, I would like to see some sort of transportation system built. Efficient transportation is necessary for a vital economy. If prosperity is a key goal to the confederacy, then we shall not wait to create efficient and modern transportation lines for all member-states.
The Senate has not been idle since its creation. Just yesterday legislation was passed that will create a very vital financial tool for further development. Minister Ioniopolis has told me that he will present a budget to the Senate within a day or two. From here, we shall use this tool to develop the member-states.
I encourage our Senate to make this first session a good, productive one. It is important to start strong. As for the rest of the region, I look forwards to working with them on issues that our region faces.
All the Best!
